An all-new 2021 Grand Wagoneer marks the rebirth of a classic American icon. If its a "rebirth," when was the first Jeep Wagoneer sold?
Jeep Wagoneers were first sold to the public back in 1963, and they were "first" back then too. In particular, they were the first four-wheel-drive vehicles with automatic transmissions and thus are considered the first SUV. Another first occurred 20 years later (1984) when an up-scale Grand Wagoneer was introduced marking the beginning of the premium SUV marketplace. At the time it was unheard of that SUV buyers could be treated to such options such as leather upholstery, air conditioning, and AM/FM/CB radios.
What will the 2021 Grand Wagoneer interior be like?
The interior of the new Grand Wagoneer will be class-leading. First, when entering the vehicle, a collection of exterior LED lights display a full "welcome" sequence. The vehicle will fit up to seven passengers thanks to its spacious, comfortable front- and second-row captain's chairs, as well as its spacious third row. Complimenting the opulent interior, the Grand Wagoneers cabin technology is powered by FCA's Uconnect 5 system. The vehicle is the first SUV to offer a separate touchscreen for the front-seat passenger and is just one of a collection of panels that add up to 45 inches of screen width across the front dashboard.
And, in an industry first, the 2021 Grand Wagoneer boasts a vehicle audio system powered by McIntosh - another high-end, American luxury brand. This audio system features a full complement of 23 custom-designed speakers driven by a high-power 24-channel amplifier. The McIntosh components are designed in aluminum and gloss black, true to the design aesthetic of McIntosh's high-end home audio systems.
What is the 2021 Grand Wagoneer exterior like?
The exterior of the Grand Wagoneer will be striking. Starting at the front, a handsome, chrome seven-slot grille accented in Obsidian black is surrounded by LED detail lighting. Flanking this, the headlights are LED and are trimmed with real teak accents. On top, a full-length single-pane glass roof offers breathtaking views of the outdoors while filling the cabin with the sunlight or starlight. From its side, the Grand Wagoneer features a stately, distinguished profile. It stands tall on 24-inch, Obsidian-finished aluminum wheels featuring 3D-printed elements. A three-piece wheel cap features the Wagoneer logo suspended in acrylic.
Is the 2021 Grand Wagoneer a hybrid vehicle?
Final details are still to be released but the factory says the 2021 Grand Wagoneer will have an "advanced electric-vehicle powertrain." Jeep does say that the Grand Wagoneer will offer class-leading capability courtesy of three different 4x4 systems each utilizing Jeep's famous Quadra-Lift air suspension and independent front/rear suspension.
When will the 2021 Grand Wagoneer be available?
Production versions of the Grand Wagoneer are slated to arrive in showrooms next year. They will be made in Warren, Michigan, near downtown Detroit, and shipped directly to dealers.
