Introducing the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX

A subject of much speculation since it's unveiling at 2016 Texas State Fair, the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has finally become a production truck. And, wow, what a truck it is. The TRX is simply the apex predator of the truck world and is engineered by Ram to handle the most punishing conditions with extreme capability and durability.
What does the 2021 TRX have for an engine?
Underneath it's scooped hood lurks the company's famous 6.2-liter Hemi V-8. More popularly known as the Hellcat engine, this supercharged beast produces 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This propels the TRX from zero-to-60-mph time in 4.5 seconds and it is said to complete the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds at 108 mph. Keep in mind, this is a truck!
What is the towing capacity of the 2021 TRX?
The TRX is not designed to be the company's most powerful towing machine but it is currently rated at up to 8100 pounds, which is 100 more than the competing F-150 Raptor. It is also capable of carrying up to 1310 pounds of payload (120 more than the Raptor).
How is the TRX off-road?
While the Hellcat engine is hugely impressive for any pickup, the TRX is actually meant to play well off-road too. Along with a specially reinforced steel frame, it boasts a heavy-duty active suspension system with more than 13 inches of travel. With 35-inch all-terrain tires, it offers 11.8 inches of ground clearance. The truck also comes with extensive underbody skid-plating, an electronic-locking rear differential, Bilstein remote-reservoir dampers, and 15.0-inch front brakes.
Can you describe the interior of the TRX?
Ram has upped the bar for truck interiors with rich-looking materials and thick sound-deadening in the TRX. The optional TR1 and TR2 packages add leather-covered surfaces and a mix of microsuede and carbon-fiber accents. The TRX's steering wheel features a pair of paddle shifters but there's also a floor shifter located on the center console. Options for the TRX include a digital rearview mirror, a heads-up display, and heated front seats.
Anything new with the TRX's infotainment system?
Yes, vertically mounted in the middle of the dashboard on every TRX is a huge 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The unit boasts Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a built-in navigation system. The display can be divided into separate menus so that multiple applications can be accessed at once. It also features physical knobs and buttons for intuitive user control. For audiophiles, the TRX can also be outfitted with an optional high-power, 19-speaker Harman-Kardon sound system.
