High-strength, forged-alloy pistons, powder-forged connecting rods and sodium-cooled exhaust valves all add to the track-bred power of the Supercharged 6.2L V8 engine. What are the powertrains that fuel the Grand Cherokee's capability?

Jeep brings in an impressive lineup of V6 and V8 engines that each push the performance of the Grand Cherokee forward. Coming under the hood with most Grand Cherokees is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that can produce upwards of 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This core engine earns a combined fuel economy rating of 21 miles per gallon and when configured properly can tow up to 6,200 lbs of trailer weight. If you are looking to put a bit more pushing power into your powertrain, Jeep offers an optional 5.7-liter V8 engine that churns out 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. This engine offers more robust acceleration while also delivering a higher overall tow rating with a max tow capacity of 7,200 lbs. At the top of the lineup are two SRT integrated V8 engines, each turning the Grand Cherokee into an incredible driving force. With the Grand Cherokee SRT, we see a 6.4-liter V8 engine that brings in 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. If you really want to push the limits of this SUV, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk totes a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. This intense V8 engine is paired with tuned systems throughout the powertrain, to be capable of pushing out a titanic 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque potential.

What are the trim levels offered with this year's model?

The Grand Cherokee is outfitted with one of seven different trim models to select from; each trim level offers a progression of features that repurpose the capabilities of the SUV and/or continue a progression of introducing additional features and enhancements. The base trim model is the Grand Cherokee Laredo, which establishes a core set of features found in every Grand Cherokee. Some of the key features brought in with the Laredo trim level include a dual-zone automatic temperature control system, quad-halogen headlights that activate automatically, and are paired with fog lamps and daytime running lamps, 17-inch wheels toting on/off-road ready tires and an advanced variable/intermittent windshield wipers. Each Grand Cherokee also comes with a full Uconnect multimedia system that is housed in a 7-inch touchscreen display with USB ports, smartphone integration, Bluetooth connectivity, and a six-speaker audio system. The Limited trim is the second trim level offered, adding in a great number of features and enhancements such as a 115-volt power outlet, power-adjustable driver's seat with memory settings, larger 18-inch wheels, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, and a power sunroof. The Trailhawk trim offers a kit of features that give the Grand Cherokee enhanced off-road capability toting off-road tires, Jeep's Selec-Terrain torque distribution settings, an enhanced air suspension, skid plates to help provide additional underbody protection, and more. Looking at the Overland trim, we see it build off of the Limited's feature list, bringing in LED enhanced bulbs for the daytime running headlights and fog lamps, a larger panoramic sunroof, larger 20-inch wheels, automatic windshield wipers, and a perforated Nappa leather interior seat upholstery. The Summit trim continues to enhance the systems of the Grand Cherokee, bringing in additional cargo compartments, premium LED fog lamps, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon high-performance sound system, and additional exterior and interior design elements unique to the trim, and more. The SRT and Trackhawk trim levels are the highest Jeep has to offer, with each adding in an impressive powertrain that pushes performance and tuned systems in order to directly apply that power to the roadways.

How is technology applied to enhance safety?

Throughout the 2020 Grand Cherokee, we see a great amount of modern technology spread throughout each of the systems, which is a testament to Jeep's work to provide the safest and most comfortable driving experience. In particular, safety is a strong prospect for the Grand Cherokee, earning a 5-Star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. This is in large part to the wide base of features found in each Grand Cherokee, with features such as blind-spot monitoring, electronic stability control with roll mitigation and an all-speed traction control system, hill-start assist, rearview camera, rear cross-path detection, and trailer-sway control. Jeep also offers additional safety features at higher trim levels and/or with optional packages such as a forward-collision warning system that uses sensors to pre-emptively detect an oncoming collision and applies automated emergency brakes to attempt to mitigate the crash.
