2019 Jeep Cherokee vs 2019 Honda CR-V near Jacksonville, NC

The SUV market has simply exploded over the years and now includes several different variations within the segment. We now have crossover SUVs, small SUVs, compact crossover SUVs, and more! Drivers love the increased road height of SUVs and the extra interior space they provide for cargo and legroom. Today we're going to take a look at two of the top contenders in the small SUV segment. First, we have the 2019 Jeep Cherokee with a refreshed exterior look, a brand new turbocharged engine, and plenty of off-road capability. Then we're going to look at the 2019 Honda CR-V which is essentially unchanged from last year's model.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

Jeep offers three different engines for the 2019 Cherokee. The first and standard engine is a 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir 2 engine which produces 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. An available 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engine pumps out 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. The Pentastar engine is rated to tow up to 4,500 pounds. Last up is the all-new 2.0-liter Turbocharged engine making 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. All versions of the Cherokee comes standard with front-wheel-drive except the Trailhawk which comes standard with four-wheel-drive.

2019 Honda CR-V Power & Handling

The 2019 Honda CR-V comes equipped with one of two available engines. The first which comes standard on the base LX model is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine making 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes mated with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. The second engine is a turbocharged four-cylinder which comes standard with the EX model. This engine is capable of producing 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee starts things off with the base model Latitude which includes automatic xenon headlights, a 7-inch touchscreen, a folding front passenger seat with a storage compartment inside the seat cushion, smartphone integration, and heated side mirrors. The Limited model adds a bunch of creature comfort featuring including remote start, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, rear parking sensors, and a power liftgate. The Overland adds even more luxurious features such as ventilated front seats, navigation, a nine-speaker sunroof, and sound-deadening windshield and front windows. From there the model lineup shifts to the off-road with the Trailhawk model with all-terrain tires increased ground clearance, a locking rear differential, off-road-oriented suspension tuning, and more!

2019 Honda CR-V Features & Design

Four different models are available for the 2019 Honda CR-V which include the base LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The CR-V LX comes standard with a four-speaker sound system, cruise control, two USB ports, a 5-inch color display, and a backup camera. Next up is the EX which adds keyless entry, foglights, a 7-inch touchscreen, and heated mirrors. The second to last trim comes with an eight-speaker sound system, leather upholstery, a power liftgate, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Lastly, we have the Touring model with dual chrome exhaust tips, roof rails, navigation, and LED headlights.

Conclusions

We're sure you'll agree with us here when we say the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is the better SUV. The Honda CR-V simply can't compete with all the features the Cherokee offers buyers and if you wanted to hit the trails with the CR-V it's best to just forget that idea.
